Costa Rican boxer Francisco Fonseca, won this Wednesday night in Panama City the WBO Latino Title in the 130 pound division against local Daniel Miranda with a fifth round technical knockout.

Fonseca, who has a record of 21 wins (15 by KO), 1 loss and 1 draw managed to stop the Panamanian who came into the fight with 13 wins and 2 losses. The Costa Rican fought back in August against Gervonta Davis, in the undercard of the Mayweather vs. McGregor event, it was in this fight that he got the first loss of his career but also it was the fight that placed him in the boxing map. With this win Francisco positions himself in the WBO ranking in his weight division with his sight set on getting another world title shot.

“I promised I was going to bring this title back to Costa Rica and here it is, another step towards my goal of becoming world champion. Winning in a foreign country is never easy and we had to come for the knockout, the work was done at the gym and I believe I hurt him, the fight should have been stopped before the fifth round. This fight was personal for me, since Miranda had fought and won against my brother some years back“, stated Fonseca after his win.

Fonseca, who grew up in San Ramon, Alajuela, will now be heading to Nicaragua, the hometown of his parents, to fulfill a promise he made of building a small church for the community.
