Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas who plays with Spanish club Real Madrid is one of the nominees of the FIFPro World XI.

The list includes a total of 55 professional soccer players, 17 of them are from Latin America.

The FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers), is the worldwide representative organization for all professional footballers; more than 65,000 players in total, male and female.

Every year the FIFPro invites male professional soccer players to select one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards to compose the best men’s team of the year, named the FIFPro World XI. The FIFPro and FIFA then announce the 55-player shortlist which consists of 5 goalkeepers, 20 defenders, 15 midfielders and 15 forwards.

Navas is up against Gianluigi Buffon (Italy/Juventus), David De Gea (Spain/Man U), Manuel Neuer (Germany/ Bayern Munich) and Jan Oblak (Slovenia/Atlético Madrid).

Among the other Latin American players nominated there are seven from Brazil, Dani Alvez. David Luiz, Marcelo, Thiago Silva, Casemiro, Philippe Coutinho and Neymar; three from Argentina, Lionel Messi, Javier Masherano and Paulo Dybala; three from Uruguay, Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, Diego Godín and Chile two, with Alexis Sánches and Arturo Vidal.

While 12 out of the 55 nominated players are from Real Madrid.

The World XI will be selected by over 24,000 professional players around the world based on the performance and achievements of their colleagues in the 2016/2017 season (August 2016 to June 2017).

The World XI awards will be announced October 23 in London, this same date the FIFA will announce the winner of The BEST FIFA Football Awards for which Navas is also nominated.
