Keylor Navas, Costa Rica’s National Soccer Team’s and Real Madrid’s goalkeeper was recognized as the Ibero-American player of 2016 by EFE.
Navas was selected over players like Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez. This award is given annually to the players of Ibero-America that during the Spanish League season have accomplished a larger quantity of points, according to the opinion of the agency’s editors.
Keylor is part of the Real Madrid’s main lineup during the last season, and was an essential part in the successful season “Los Blancos” had, raising the UEFA Champions League Cup after the victory achieved over Atletico de Madrid in Italy last May.
His team also won the UEFA Super Cup in August (he suffered and injury and was out for some time), and the FIFA Club World Cup in December.
“Thank God we won those titles, these are memories that will be there forever, they will be part of our career and of the history of the club”, said the goalkeeper last week about their achievements.
Navas has also earned his place as the main goalkeeper for Costa Rica’s male National Soccer Team, where he is a key player providing security to the team, and as one of its leaders.
Other players that have received this award in previous years include: Uruguay’s Luis Suarez and Argentinian Lionel Messi.
The award will be given to Navas next January 10th during a ceremony organized by the news agency.
