The victories of the Costa Rica male National Soccer Team in the first two games of the hex stage of the CONCACAF qualification matches to Russia World Cup 2018 reflected in the FIFA ranking that was released this week.

“La Sele” is positioned in the 17th slot, one step ahead of Mexico which makes Costa Rica the top team in the CONCACAF. The U.S.A. went down four slots to position 28.

Costa Rica had a great start to this phase of the qualification matches, beating Trinidad and Tobago 0-2 and the U.S.A. MNT 4-0. The loss of the US team in Costa Rican soil and the loss they suffered at home against Mexico, costed head coach Jurgen Klinsmann his job.

Other changes in the ranking include Argentina that now takes the lead in the first position which used to hold Brazil, the “Cariocas” now appear in second place, while Germany takes third; another South American country takes the fourth slot: Chile, which climbed two spots, getting ahead of Belgium and Colombia.

France, Portugal, Uruguay and Spain complete the top ten in the FIFA ranking.

Costa Rica’s male National Soccer Team will dispute their third game of the hex March 24th, 2017 against Mexico and will then face Honduras in March 28th.
