Costa Rica’s male national soccer team, scored a 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in their first qualifier game of the hexagonal stage of the CONCACAF Russia World Cup 2018.

“La Sele” had a good performance at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, in a game that was controlled by the Costa Ricans; starting the hex off with a road win was essential as Costa Rica hopes to secure a spot in the World Cup.

The first half of Costa Rica vs. Trinidad & Tobago went by without any goals being scored, La Sele looked controlled against a very organized and structured Trinidad.

A great assistance by Cristian Gamboa that concluded with a goal by Cristian Bolaños in minute 64 of the second half opened the score, and the second goal came at minute 92 by Ronald Matarrita after receiving a pass from Cristian Bolaños.

The down side: captain Bryan Ruiz had to leave the game in the second half apparently suffering from pain in his calf, the team doctor after the game said he doesn’t thing it’s serious and expects he will be able to play in the second game of the hex; defender Francisco Calvo also had to leave the field due to an injury in his ankle and is a doubt for Tuesday’s game against U.S. MNT.

The line up for Costa Rica: Keylor Navas; Johnny Acosta, Kendall Waston, Francisco Calvo (Michael Umaña 41′), Christian Gamboa y Rónald Matarrita; Celso Borges, Christian Bolaños, Rándall Azofeifa y Bryan Ruiz (Johan Venegas 76′); Marco Ureña (57′).

Costa Rica vs. USA will happen Tuesday, November 15 at the Costa Rica National Stadium.
