Costa Rica’s Junior National Surfing Team is participating in the Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Azores Islands, Portugal, today Costa Rica celebrates its first victory as Aldito Chirinos (Sub-16) took the win in round 1, heat 3. Esteban Chavez (Sub-18) and Andy Chavez (Sub-16) also had wave action today and their points allowed them to go to repechage to dispute a place in the next round.

Paralympic Athletes Camila Haase and Leonel Solis concluded their participation in Rio Summer Paralympics 2016. Camila had her last participation yesterday in the women’s 100m backstroke where once again she managed to improve her mark this time from 01:24:72 to 01:23:12. Haase made history in Costa Rica by being the first woman to represent the country in the Paralympic Competitions. On the other hand, cyclist Leonel Solis completed 84.5 km in 2 hours, 30 minutes and 9 seconds, which gained him the 18th position in the general table and 8th position in category C4. Solis who is 51 years old, stated during an interview before the race he was happy with the accomplishments he’s had.
Costa Rica’s Paralympic marathon runner Jose Jimenez will compete tomorrow, September 18th and this will close the participation of Costa Rican athletes in Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Mountaineer Warner Rojas, climbed the tallest mountain in Russia, Mount Elbrus which stands at 5,642 mts (18,510 feet), Rojas started climbing at 6 p.m. on September 15th and reached the peak at 11:34 p.m. Costa Rica time, in total 5 hours and 24 minutes; he had five days to acclimate to the cold weather and high altitude before beginning his ascent. This is another of Warner’s accomplishments as a professional mountaineer.
