Costa Rican Paralympic swimmer Camila Haase had a solid participation in Sao Paulo 2017 Parapan American Youth Games earning gold medal in the women’s 100m breaststroke competition where she also broke her own record with a time of 1:36,33 (her previous record was of 1:39,99 which she achieved at the Rio Paralympic Games 2016).

Camila is bringing back four medals from Brazil, three bronze and one gold, the bronze medals were achieved in 50 meters’ freestyle with a time of 33:45, 100 meters’ freestyle with 1:14,77 and 100 meters’ backstroke marking 1:24,67. She also competed in the 100 meters’ butterfly stroke where she finished in third position stopping the clock at 1:25,51, but due to the rules of the IPC she was ranked in fourth place due to the number of points achieved.

Hasse is 17 years old and had her left arm amputated as a baby which has not been an obstacle in achieving her goals.

Steven Román, was another Costa Rican athlete who had a good performance winning the silver medal in singles category of table tennis. Román and his doubles partner Hernán Rojas earned their pass to the doubles final beating Colombia 3 sets to 1. Román and Rojas will face finalists from Brazil tomorrow (Friday) at 11 a.m. Costa Rica time.
