Costa Rican Female World Champion Hanna Gabriels is ready for her rematch against Dominican Oxandia Castillo. Both fighters successfully completed the weigh-in ceremony with official weights of 153 lbs. for Gabriels and 154 lbs. for Castillo.
Gabriels is putting her WBO and WBA titles on the line against the only fighter that has managed to beat her.
The first time these two fighters met in the ring was back in February 2013, in Costa Rica, a fight that Gabriels lost via technical knockout.
The Costa Rican has mentioned several times her interest in settling the score with Castillo and this will be her opportunity; yesterday during the final press conference prior to the fight, Gabriels commented “It’s about demonstrating that I am a better fighter, emotionally I wasn’t prepared for that fight back in 2013, now I am, I am at a great point in my life and my career, and I know she has matured too, so this will be a great fight, I’ll give it my all to make my country proud”.
While Castillo said, “I was very young back then, I have grown as a person and as a fighter, I am ready to show I am the better fighter”.
Gabriels is 34 years of age and has a record of 17 wins, 1 lose and 1 draw while Castillo is 23 years-old and holds a record of 16 wins, 2 losses and 3 draws; although the Dominican is very young she has plenty of experience, and has disputed world titles in several occasions including against the undisputed female world champion Cecilia Braekhus.
The event takes this Friday, October 13 at the Gimnasio Nacional in La Sabana, San José, Costa Rica.
