Costa Rica’s Female World Champion Hanna Gabriels, confirmed through her Facebook page that she will be back in the ring defending her titles October 15; her opponent? Dominican Oxandia Castillo who beat Gabriels back in 2013.
The rematch between Gabriels and Castillo has been long coming, their first encounter was in February 2013 at the Saprissa Stadium in Costa Rica where Gabriels fell to the canvas victim of a hard-right hand. Castillo is the only stain in the hometown champion’s record.
Hanna is now looking for revenge, and for this, she is putting both her WBO and WBA titles on the line.
After taking the victory in Costa Rica in 2013, Castillo went on to fight unified and undisputed champion Cecilia Braekhus and lost by KO. Castillo’s current record is of 16 wins 2 losses and 3 draws, versus Hanna’s 17 wins 1 loss and 1 draw.
Gabriels’ last defense was back in May in Costa Rica when she defeated Canadian Natasha Spence via unanimous decision.
