The Costa Rican coast guard intercepted a motorboat in Golfo Dulce in the Pacific carrying over one ton of cocaine.

The National Coast Guard Service of the Ministry of Public Security was in a routine patrolling operation when they spotted a suspicious boat with two-men aboard, the police had to chase the motorboat which they were able to intercept close to Puerto Jimenez, however the men disregarded the order to stop and they headed towards Playa Carbonera where they ditched the boat and took off by foot through the mountainous area, they managed to escape and have yet not been found.

Aboard the boat, the authorities found 41 packets of drugs, the motorboat used for sportfishing was taken to Golfito where it was thoroughly checked, according to the official reports the drug weighed over 1000 kilograms in total.

With this, the police have seized so far this year over 25 tons of cocaine through different operations by ground and at sea.

In the meantime, in the Moin Port in Limon, the Drug Control Police (PCD) found 173 kilograms of cocaine in an anchored boat.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the boat arrived yesterday from Golfo de Urabá, Antioquia, Colombia; an alert was raised informing of the possible traffic of cocaine on the boat named “Discovery Bay” and which navigates with a flag from Bahamas, after a thorough revision the police found the cocaine packets in one of the boat’s compartments.
