The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) of Costa Rica informed they will be closing the crossroad in front of the Fiesta Casino, near the Juan Santamaría Airport in Alajuela this Thursday at 8 a.m.

This road connects the area known as INVU Las Cañas and the General Cañas highway on the way from Alajuela to San Jose.

The access from INVU to the Airport will also be closed temporarily; the access will be reestablished in a month’s time with the necessary improvements to make it better for the user.

MOPT assured they will have up to 27 traffic cops present in the area throughout the day to regulate transit in this area. The closure is necessary to expedite the advance of the road work being done in this area and the construction of the new “loop” in the airport crossroad.

The work requires the removal of the pipes of the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (Recope) located in front of the Fiesta Casino and the elimination of traffic lights that will not be necessary with the new road plan created.

In the images included in the gallery you can see some of the alternative routes proposed by MOPT.
