Cocaine, prostitutes and a domineering First Lady are the highlights of a sordid memoir by a former United Secret Service agent stationed in the White House during the administration of former President William Jefferson Clinton.

The book is titled Crisis of Character, and it hit bookshelves in the U.S. just a few days ago. The Costa Rica Star has not reviewed this book, although political columnist Britt Nelson has already written about its impending release and the potential damage it may pose to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whose presidential candidacy has been marred by investigations.

Author Gary Byrne was assigned to the West Wing, one of the most important posts a Secret Service agent can hope to protect. Mr. Byrne’s tell-all book about his time in the White House during the Clinton years has been heavily anticipated, and its strategic publishing just a few months prior to the general election has also been questioned.

The New York Post and the Daily Mail obtained advanced copies of Crisis of Character; as can be expected of those two fine publications, they skipped to the good parts of the book for the benefit of their readers. First of all, Mr. Byrne asserts that he is a true patriot, and that he is just doing U.S. voters a service by letting them know how difficult it was for him and his fellow agents to deal with the former First Lady.

Mr. Byrne paints a picture of Hillary Clinton as a domineering, foul-mouthed and acerbic witch, whom he thinks lacks the leadership traits to lead his beloved country. So caustic was her condescending attitude towards everyone, that Mr. Byrne’s fellow agents turned to hookers and blow to cope with their assignments:

‘Many turned to alcohol, drugs, performance enhancers, affairs (sometimes at the workplace), and even prostitutes and other dangerous habits.’

Mr. Byrne is hardly the first to write about the proclivity of U.S. Secret Service agents for cavorting with prostitutes. In 2012, an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security revealed that agents assigned to protect President Barack Obama had engaged in misconduct when they hired a bunch of attractive Colombian prostitutes for a party. In a similar situation, The Costa Rica Star has previously reported on the resignation of a former director of the Drug Enforcement Agency due to revelations of agents getting it on with working girls while on assignment.

In an interview with the New York Post, Mr. Byrne mentioned that the Clinton White House was allegedly a fun place to work at:

“There were some drug issues. Some people would come in to work in the morning, and they were barely walking, they would drop stuff off at the office, and go to the restroom where they would come out minutes later happy as a clown.”
