Costa Rica Race, a renowned trail running event organizer, has added a new, scenic challenge for lovers of cross-country outdoor adventures. The Epic Trail Race is an appropriately named course that features spectacular trails in Guanacaste, and it offers running challenges for various levels.
The Epic Trail Race connects the city of Liberia with the Rincon de la Vieja (Old Woman’s Corner) volcano and national park.
The event organizers at Costa Rica Race have carefully designed the tracks and mountain trails that make up this challenge. The starting point for all five levels is at the Buena Vista Lodge, which is located at the entrance of the Rincon de la Vieja National Park.
Experienced ultra-marathon and trail runners will have three distances to choose from: 51 kilometers, 44 kilometers and 31 kilometers. Casual runners and beginners can choose 5 and 10K races.
The International Trail Running Association recognizes Costa Rica Race as a member in good standing. This adventure travel firm also puts together mountain bike packages; in fact, the Epic Bike Rincon de la Vieja event will take place days before the aforementioned race. The Epic Bike course is more recreational and less demanding than the trail running event; it also takes place in Liberia around the Buena Vista Lodge, but the longest course is 36 kilometers and is more scenic than technical.
In 2016, Costa Rica Race will also offer an overseas trail running adventure in Morocco. Two events are planned for 2017: a nocturnal marathon around the Irazu volcano plus an Ultra Trail Running Challenge around the Arenal volcano.
