The US Kids World Championship is the biggest children tournament in the world, and this year it will have the participation of close to 1500 kids from 50 countries; out of these, three are Costa Rican.
Nicoláas Maroto, Luis Cruz and Adriana Llobet are representing the country in the tournament which is being held in Pinehurst, North Carolina since Monday. The tournament is divided in seven different categories according to age group and of course male and female divisions.
For Luis Cruz this is the second time representing the country, this year he is participating in the 7 year-old category. Cruz last year finished in the position 46 of 83 and hopes to improve his ranking.
Nicolas Maroto is participating in the US Kids World Championship for the first time, in the 8 year-old category; while Adriana Llobet is the only Costa Rican in the female division and will be competing in the 10 year-old category.
Last week four Costa Ricans also took part of the US Kids Teen World Championship held in this same location, in this case Felipe Odio, Kai Unfried, Julian González and Andrés Russi represented Costa Rica . 13-year-old Odio had the best participation and was able to win along with his international team the Van Horn Cup; this is the first time a Costa Rican is able to win this cup; actually the last six years the local US team has won the Van Horn Cup.
