The Qualifying Series Essential Costa Rica Pro Open 3000 one of the stops of the World Surf League (WSL QS3000), is taking place at Esterillos Este beach in Parrita, Puntarenas, as of today and will extend through Sunday, October 9.

Every day the competition starts at 7 a.m. with men’s rounds that will extend through 1 p.m.; women’s competitions are scheduled in the afternoon starting at around 1:30 p.m.

Competitors from different parts of the world are taking part in this important event that has the support of Costa Rica’s Tourism Board; some of the most renowned competitors are: Brazilian Silvana Lima, sub champion of the ASP World Tour 2008 and 2009 and ranked number five in the WSL with 12800 points; Coco Ho daughter of legendary surfer Michael Ho, and with over 4 years of experience in the World Tour,  Ethan Ewing (Australia), Meah Collins, Tia Blanco (U.S.A), Kilian Garland (U.S.A),Taylor Clark, Jean da Silva and Ian Gouveia from Brazil.

Costa Rica’s competitors include, Carlos “Cali” Muñoz (currenly ranked No. 39), Noe Mar McGonagle, Tomas King, Jason Torres, Jair Perez, Isaac Vega, Anthony Fillingim, Leilani McGonagle (who just won a bronce medal in the ISA Jr. World Championship), Emily Gussoni, Coral Wiggins, Lisbeth Vindas and Camila Summers.

3000 points for the first place and cash prizes adding up to $130,000.00 are on the line for this event, a great opportunity for surfers to earn additional points before the QS Brazilian and the Hawaiian Triple Crown and the option of climbing positions in the WSL ranking to participate in the World Tour of 2017.

The last time an event of this level was hosted in Costa Rica was back in 2002. Aside from great surf, attending public will be able to enjoy free concerts and other activities.
