Two of the hottest Christmas gifts received by tech and photography enthusiasts around the world were drone aircraft and GoPro high-definition cameras. According to a recent story in All Things Considered, a news program broadcast by National Public Radio in the United States, many YouTube videos posted on Christmas Day featured new drone operators crashing their new, expensive presents into trees and buildings.

 

At least one filmmaker using a drone and GoPro equipment in Costa Rica fared much better than the unlucky and inexperienced operators who crashed their holiday presents. The video below was uploaded to YouTube on December 26^th, and it starts out with a snake staring at, and later striking, the camera lens –definitely a good idea in the sense that drones and remote-controlled cameras can keep wildlife photographers safe in Costa Rica. The video then continues with the feeding of caimans in the reptile-infested Tarcoles River; by the way, this is something that you should never do in Costa Rica (VIDEO).

 

Things get much neater in this video at around the 0:13 mark when the copter drone gets airborne and films green coastline; then, we see it take off while startling a dog no the beach. The video culminates with a gorgeous view of swells approaching the shore, homes near the beach, and people enjoying a somewhat overcast day. Costa Rica certainly shows a lot of promise for budding aerial photographers and filmmakers who use drones and GoPro equipment.
