The first date of the “Kölbi” National Surf Tournament which took place in Dominical Beach this weekend gathered almost 170 competitors, one of the highest numbers in participation for this tournament.

Some of the most popular faces of Costa Rican surf were unable to attend due to their participation in different international events.

For this first date it was Jason Torres former national champion in 2015 and 16 year-old Coral Wiggins that took the HOOKD Cup home.
The conditions in Dominical beach were not the best this Sunday, and by the end of the day it was difficult for the competitors to get good waves.

The final in category Open-Male was disputed among Jason Torres, Maykol Torres, Sean Foerster and Jair Pérez; at the end Jason took the lead with two waves scored 6.5 + 7.07, “I am very happy to have won the National Circuit again, and ready to continue battling in the championship which I want to win, I want to be considered again for the National Team and be an ISA world champion this year, these are my goals”, said Jason.

On the other hand, Coral Wiggins, from Guanacaste and competitor of team Hurley, took the win in the Female Junior category and the Female Open, she is the third Costa Rican female to achieve this, after Leilani McGonagle and Emily Gussoni.

I got this result because I have been working very hard. I dedicate this win to my parents and my sponsors, who make all this possible”, stated Wiggins.
