Costa Rica’s Surfing Federation announced the list of wwenty athletes in 7 different categories that have been selected to be part of Costa Rica’s National Surfing Team and will represent the country in the upcoming Central America Surfing Games.
Aspects taken into consideration when selecting the participant athletes included their individual performance during the National Circuit Kolbi 2016, and those athletes that are prospects and are now ready to give the step into international competitions. Familiar names such as: Emily Gussoni, Malakai Martinez, Oscar Urbina and Zulay Martinez are part of the list.

One of the athletes stands out from the rest because of her age, 11 year old Lía Díaz, from Tamarindo who will compete in U16 category.
The Central American Surfing Federations selected the different participating categories opting to open the opportunity to divisions that will be part of the Olympic Cycle. This includes the Central American Games Managua 2017; the Pan-american Games Lima 2019 and of course the final stop Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

Unlike previous editions of the Central America Surfing Games, in this opportunity all divisions will participate except for Masters (over 35 years of age), Stand Up Paddle and BodyBoard, these categories have not been contemplated for the Olympic Cycle.

Costa Rica remains the undefeated champion of the Central America Surfing Games since the first edition of this event in 2006
