Costa Rica up two positions in World Junior Surfing Championship Ranking

Costa Rica’s  outstanding performance at  the Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Azores Islands, Portugal has already earned the country  the sixth position in the ranking, climbing two spots from last years’ historic eight place.

Oscar Urbina (U-18), Aldito Chirinos (U-16) and Zulay Martinez (Girls U-16) got their pass to the third rounds of their respective categories; Zulay managed to classify to the next stage by winning in the repechage round, with this accomplishment Zulay ranks between the best 25 girls in the tournament out of a total of 64, while Aldo and Oscar are among the top 55 of 128.  Oscar had classified also to the second round of the U-16 category but he got a fourth position today, he still has a chance to recover in the repechage round.

Malakai Martinez competing for U-18 and U-16  got a third position in his heats in each category, the points earned allow him to go to repechage round tomorrow.

The only competitor that saw her participation come to an end today was Coral Wiggings.

Out of 12 competitors Costa Rica still has 11 with great possibilities.

Tomorrow the competition continues for Joseph Mendez (U-18 Round 2), Esteban Chavez (U-18 Repechage), Malakai Martinez (U-16 Repechage) and Andre Chacón (U-16 Repechage).
