The Central American Surfing Games kick off today with the opening ceremony that will take place at the Jaco Beach Best Western Hotel, this private event will be hosted by the Costa Rican Surfing Federation represented by its President, Randall Chaves.

Competitions will begin Friday at 7 a.m. and will extend through the weekend with the participation of the delegations of: Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

“We are anxious and ready for this Championship to begin. Just the fact of having the participation of all sister Central American delegations can give us an idea of the level of competition we will have in Jaco Beach this weekend”, said Chaves.

During the opening ceremony all delegations can formalize the inscriptions of their 20 competitors.

The competition will have participants in the following categories: Open, Female Open, Junior, Female Junior, U16, Female U16 and longboard.

Friday and Saturday the assistant public will be able to enjoy Hip-Hop and Reggae nights.

This is the eleventh edition of the Central American Surfing Games; Costa Rica is the defending champion, it has held the first place since the first edition in 2006.

The weather conditions and waves are expected to be great this weekend.

Costa Rica’s team has several well-known and experienced figures such as Anthony Fillingim, Emily Gussoni, Aldo Chirinos, Oscar Urbina and Zulay Martinez; and also new faces such as 11-year-old Lía Diaz, the youngest member of the team, a native of Tamarindo, that will compete in the U16 female category.
